The MTV Video Music Awards are returning to the West Coast this year with rapper and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg set to host the telecast. The ceremony is scheduled to air live from Los Angeles on Sept. 27.

This marks the first time since 2017 that the VMAs have been held outside of New York or New Jersey. The show will be broadcast simultaneously across CBS, MTV, and Paramount+ from the Peacock Theater.

Snoop Dogg, a 13-time VMA nominee and three-time winner, has a long history with the awards show, having made his debut on the VMA stage in 1994. He has since performed multiple times, including closing the show in 1999 with Dr. Dre and Eminem, paying tribute to The Notorious B.I.G., and performing with Eminem in 2022.

"MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning," Snoop Dogg said in a statement. "Some of the biggest moments of my career happened on that stage and on MTV — they gave hip-hop a place to be loud, fearless and seen by the whole world. So to come back now and host the VMAs, all these years later, that’s a full-circle moment for me."

Among the nominees announced, Madonna leads with 11 nods, including for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year. Taylor Swift follows with nine nominations, also including Artist of the Year. Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter each have seven nominations, while Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress, and Zara Larsson have five.

Nirvana is slated to receive the Video Vanguard award at the ceremony.
