The Seafield Arms Hotel in Cullen, located on the Moray coast of Scotland, recently played a significant role in the production of the Hollywood blockbuster "The Odyssey." The film, which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Zendaya as Athena, has become a box office success.
Before its premiere, the hotel was transformed into a hub for the film's cast and crew. According to the hotel's social media, it served as an exclusive base, fostering a unique atmosphere. Staff were able to witness the movie's creation firsthand.
Behind-the-Scenes Operations
A particularly noteworthy aspect of the production was the repurposing of the hotel's grand ballroom. It was boarded up and used nightly to screen the day's filming footage, projected from an antique projector brought from a museum in England. This provided hotel staff with a unique perspective on cinematic history. Additionally, private dining rooms were converted into editing suites to support the crew's post-production work.
The hotel, which features 24 luxury en-suite rooms, hosted several cast members, including Matt Damon. Actress Samantha Morton, who has a role in the film, was also seen at the venue.
Local Impact
A spokesperson for the Seafield Arms Hotel described hosting the production as an incredible experience for their team and a proud moment for Cullen and the Moray coast. The hotel also noted the potential for the film to inspire tourism, as the region's coastline is featured on the big screen.
"The Odyssey" follows the ancient Greek myth of King Odysseus's arduous journey home from the Trojan War to reunite with his wife Penelope, portrayed by Anne Hathaway, and their son.
The hotel has since redecorated some of the spaces used during filming to resemble a "Greek-style Odyssey residence" for guests.
