Slipknot has announced it will "no longer be associated" with DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson. The confirmation comes two weeks after initial reports claimed Wilson, 49, had been "kicked out" of the heavy metal band after nearly three decades.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, the group stated, "Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson." The statement, which remained on the Instagram for the band's music festival, Knotfest, added, "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Wilson joined Slipknot in early 1998 as the ninth member of the band's now-iconic nine-member lineup. He was known for his gas mask-inspired designs and energetic stage presence. An insider close to the band told TMZ that Wilson was informed of his permanent ousting on July 31, though the reason for the fallout remains unclear.
Wilson's departure follows that of drummer Jay Weinberg, who parted ways with the band in November 2023. Other significant lineup changes over the years include the death of bassist Paul Gray from an accidental drug overdose in 2010, the death of drummer Joey Jordison in 2021, percussionist Chris Fehn's dismissal in 2019, and keyboardist Craig Jones's exit in 2023.
With Wilson's departure, only vocalist Corey Taylor, percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan, and guitarists Mick Thomson and Jim Root remain from Slipknot's original celebrated lineup.
This news comes after a personally difficult year for Wilson, who announced his separation from fiancée Kelly Osbourne in March. The couple had been engaged for seven months after Wilson proposed at a Black Sabbath concert attended by Osbourne's family. Osbourne and Wilson share a three-year-old son, Sidney. Sources indicated that the separation was amicable, with both parties prioritizing their son and their own well-being.
