Sixpence None the Richer has canceled their upcoming tour dates following the death of bassist Justin Cary. Cary, a member of the band for 30 years, passed away on June 18 at the age of 50 after suffering a severe stroke a week prior.

The stroke necessitated two surgeries and intensive care at Albany Med in New York before his passing. In light of his death, the band confirmed the cancellation of their entire UK tour, which had been scheduled for September and October.

"We are completely heartbroken over the tragic and untimely loss of our bandmate, brother-in-arms, and friend for 30 years, Justin Cary," the band stated. "The past three years had been full of international tours, recording new music, and an even further deepening of the joy of making music together."

The band expressed their anticipation for connecting with fans but emphasized the current need for time to grieve. "With heavy hearts, we are canceling all remaining tour dates for 2026," they added. "We don't know what is ahead, we never do, really. But for now, we must grieve our brother."

Sixpence None the Richer, originally formed in Texas in 1992 and later based in Nashville, gained widespread recognition with their 1998 hit song "Kiss Me," which earned a Grammy nomination. Other notable songs include "There She Goes," "Don't Dream It's Over," "Melody Of You," and "Breathe Your Name."

Cary joined the band in 1997, coinciding with the release of their self-titled album. The group also experienced periods of disbandment and reunion, releasing new music and EPs in subsequent years.

Cary also had professional associations with artists such as Counting Crows and Lee Brice. The band's journey included signing with Squint Entertainment, releasing their breakthrough self-titled album, and later navigating label challenges before releasing "Divine Discontent" in 2002. They reunited in 2007 and continued to release music.
