Actress Sharon Stone has revealed that her role in the 1992 film "Basic Instinct" opened "dark doors" in her life, attracting dangerous individuals and situations.
Stone, who starred as the seductive crime novelist Catherine Tramell, told the "Mayim Bialik's Breakdown" podcast that she was young and inexperienced when she took on the part and did not fully understand how to maintain her own core self while embodying the character. "I opened some dark doors, right? And some of those dark doors really scared the living s--- out of me, because I saw some real, real darkness," Stone recalled.
She explained that these perceived connections to darkness drew people into her life who identified with it. "Dark people, dark things, dangerous things came into my life because they thought, 'You're like me.' And then people believed some of the dark things that were said about me because they thought, 'Oh, you couldn't do that if you weren't like that because you've mirrored me to me,'" Stone said.
The experience taught Stone the importance of discernment and protecting her inner self. "Really the one thing you got to remember is just because the devil's a very interesting person at the cocktail party doesn't mean you should invite that person, give them a seat. Don't give that person a seat," she advised.
Stone stated that she "nearly died" when the darkness encroached upon her life but was ultimately saved by what she described as the "light" and "universal consciousness of light." She emphasized the need to hold onto one's "core self" and avoid becoming "porous" to negative influences.
Spiritual Vision After Stroke
Stone also shared an experience from September 2001, when she suffered a massive, life-threatening stroke. After spending nine days in the hospital due to a ruptured artery causing a brain bleed, Stone described having a surreal vision during her recovery at home. She said she encountered five glowing orbs of light that communicated with her in a "digital language."
"When I was first home from the hospital, I couldn’t sleep at night, and I was sleeping in the day," Stone recalled. "When I was laying on the couch, sleeping and awake, these orbs sort of presented themselves to me."
Stone recounted asking the orbs if she was supposed to stay or die. They reportedly told her, "You're supposed to stay." She then made an agreement with them, asking two of the orbs to stay with her then-one-year-old son, Roan, whom she feared would be taken from her. "I said, ‘I can only stay if two of you will stay with my son. Because I don’t want him to be alone, and I think he’s gonna get taken from me,’" she said.
Stone later adopted two more sons, Laird and Quinn, as a single mother. She and ex-husband Phil Bronstein, who adopted Roan in 2000, finalized their divorce in 2004, with Bronstein becoming Roan's primary caretaker. Stone has previously stated that her "Basic Instinct" image was used against her in a custody hearing.
The orbs, she said, agreed to stay with her son and protect him, stating, "But your destiny requires that we stay with you."
Stone said the experience with the orbs lasted for "several days" and that she was not frightened but rather "curious" and "very much at peace."
