Leah Stewart, 34, has been reunited with her daughter, August, 12 days after a great white shark attacked her at Coogee Beach. Stewart had been in intensive care in a coma following the June 13 incident.

Her condition has improved, and she is now awake, alert, and stable. Her brother, Joshua, confirmed on Thursday that Stewart has been brought out of heavy sedation and has been able to communicate with her family and medical team. He noted that her progress has been significant and occurred sooner than anticipated.

Stewart and August, who had never been separated before the attack, have now seen each other for the first time since Stewart was hospitalized. Joshua Stewart stated that they were "overjoyed" at the reunion. He also mentioned that Leah has seen supportive messages from the public and looks forward to responding when able, though she does not yet have the use of her hand.
