Shania Twain's recent performances while opening for Harry Styles at London's Wembley Stadium have ignited a wave of online discussion, with many fans and observers expressing strong opinions about her stage outfits and dance moves.
During a performance of her 1999 hit "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!," the 60-year-old Canadian singer appeared in a black lace dress, which, along with her onstage choreography, drew criticism on social media platforms including TikTok and X.
Commenters on TikTok described the outfit as "so tacky" and suggested that Twain, a five-time Grammy winner, should consult with a new stylist. Some compared her choices to those of Madonna, questioning the appropriateness of certain outfits for artists of their age. "Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should," one widely shared comment read, while another referenced Twain's own song, stating, "That don’t impress me much."
Similar sentiments were voiced on the platform X. "As if the outfits aren’t bad enough….the ‘dance’ movements are tragic!" one user posted. "Granny underpants even with a lacy overlay are NOT particularly sexy. But the clunky moves are just too cringe." Another user characterized the ensemble as "trashy not classy," likening it to something found in a "Frederick's of Hollywood catalog."
However, many fans defended Twain's choices, highlighting her enduring talent and stage presence. "Why what? She looks incredible," one supporter wrote. Another commented, "She’s having a blast while slinging and lookin good. CTFO." Several users pointed out that Twain, despite her age, was performing exceptionally well, with one stating, "she still doing Hella better than most."
Twain has previously spoken about embracing her body and aging, expressing a desire to send a confident message. In a June interview with The Independent, she stated, "I have a 60-year-old body, but I will walk on the beach in my bikini. I don’t really care if [people] are OK with it or not, right?"
She has also been candid about her past struggles with body image, particularly during menopause. Twain recalled hating her body and being unable to look in the mirror during her 2019 Las Vegas residency, leading her to engage in "very unhealthy things" for weight loss. She described becoming "malnourished" and sustaining a thigh injury during that period.
Despite these past difficulties, Twain has adopted a more positive outlook on aging and her body. "Now I'm like, bring on the mirrors, I'm going to look at myself all day long!" she shared, noting that menopause taught her to accept things she cannot control.
Twain is scheduled to perform with Styles for all of his London dates. She has been opening for Styles since his first Wembley concert on June 12.
