Shailene Woodley has won her first Emmy Award, securing the title of Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Sunday. The award recognizes her performance as Jane Chapman in Hulu's post-apocalyptic series “Paradise.”
This marks Woodley's first Emmy win, after receiving her initial nomination in 2017 for a supporting role in HBO's “Big Little Lies.”
During her acceptance speech, Woodley thanked her mother and expressed gratitude for the honor. "I just feel so lucky to do what we do and to be a part of the circus with all of you amazing traveling storytelling clowns," she said, according to Deadline.
Following the ceremony, Woodley shared a more extensive message on Instagram, explaining that she had been informed she would have limited speaking time. "trying to paraphrase such a special experience into thirty seconds felt impossible," she wrote. She reflected on her time playing the character Annie, noting the "kindness, the generosity, the invitational way you all welcomed me in as a temporary guest in your big paradise compound." Woodley also extended thanks to the series' creator Dan Fogelman and co-star Sterling K. Brown.
She concluded her social media posts with a declaration of her passion for her craft: "THANK GOD FOR ART!!!! THANK GOD FOR ARTISTS!!!! next up... dan! sterling! julianne! hanelle! Let’s go!!!"
The Creative Arts Emmys honor achievements in categories such as animation, reality, and guest performances, preceding the main Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony.
