Scott Kimball, a convicted conman and fraudster, operated for years as a paid FBI informant while also allegedly committing multiple murders, a story detailed in The Crime Desk newsletter.

Kimball had reportedly negotiated his release from prison to provide intelligence to the FBI concerning murder-for-hire plots. However, his activities also coincided with individuals mysteriously going missing, according to an account from Kaysi McLeod's father, Rob McLeod, and FBI Special Agent Jonathan Grusing.

Kaysi McLeod vanished in August 2003. At the time, Kimball, who had claimed to be an FBI agent, told her parents that the 19-year-old had run away from home.

McLeod and Grusing have revealed details of Kimball's alleged crimes in the newsletter, describing him as a serial killer nicknamed 'Hannibal' and outlining a trail of bodies discovered in the mountain states. The newsletter also questions the meaning behind Kimball's trip with Kaysi's mother following the disappearance and how he managed to deceive law enforcement agencies for an extended period.
