Selena Gomez is set to be a bridesmaid in the upcoming wedding of Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, according to a source. The ceremony is reportedly scheduled to include festivities beginning with a rehearsal dinner at Madison Square Garden, followed by the main wedding event at the same venue on Friday.
Representatives for Swift and Gomez have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Gomez and Swift have maintained a close friendship for nearly two decades, with their bond originating in 2008. At that time, Gomez was dating Nick Jonas, and Swift was dating Joe Jonas. "It was amazing, because she was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked," Gomez recalled in a 2017 interview. "It was the best thing we got out of those relationships."
Throughout their friendship, the two have frequently appeared together at red carpets, award shows, and high-profile events such as the Vanity Fair Oscar party. Their shared history also includes a joint performance at Madison Square Garden in 2011, when Gomez joined Swift on stage during the "Speak Now" tour to perform Gomez's song "Who Says."
Swift has spoken about the significance of their enduring friendship. In a 2014 interview, she stated, "When your life changes, and you become thrust into this really strange whirlwind where what your life is is different from what other people think your life is. And your life is commented on and your life is written about and fictionalized and all that. Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hung in there through all the different changes we’ve gone through." She emphasized that "longevity is something you really can find very precious and rare in friendships."
Gomez has also publicly expressed her deep appreciation for Swift. Following a surprise duet during Swift's "Reputation" tour in 2018, Gomez shared, "The reason why [Taylor] has been one of my best friends is because this person has never ever judged a single decision I’ve made. She’s always met me where I’ve been. She’s encouraged me when I’ve had nothing to be encouraged about, and I don’t know if I would be as strong as I am if I didn’t have you and your family because you’ve changed my life."
Swift previously officiated at Gomez's wedding to music producer Benny Blanco on September 27 in Santa Barbara, California. Gomez has also shared that Swift's song "Dorothea" is inspired by her, and that Swift penned an unreleased track about their friendship titled "Family."
Expected guests at the wedding celebration, in addition to Gomez and Blanco, include Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, the Haim sisters, Sombr, Suki Waterhouse, Cara Delevingne, Mariska Hargitay, and Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid.
