Sean Ono Lennon, son of the late Beatles member John Lennon, has become a father for the first time. Lennon, 51, and his girlfriend, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, 39, welcomed a baby boy named Aurelius.
Lennon shared the news on Instagram, posting photos of his son and stating, "Charlotte and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!" He also posted a photo of Muhl in the hospital, captioning it "Baby Momma!"
Aurelius is the first grandchild for Yoko Ono, 93, and John Lennon. Ono also has two grandchildren from her older daughter, Kyoko.
The birth announcement followed an earlier, now-deleted, social media post from Sean's older brother, Julian Lennon, 63. Julian, the son of John Lennon and his first wife Cynthia, had announced that he had become an uncle, sharing congratulations to Sean and Muhl on their "Beautiful Boy," a reference to a song John Lennon dedicated to Sean.
Despite past rumors of estrangement, Sean and Julian Lennon have maintained a close relationship. Last year, Sean shared a fan post addressing potential comparisons and conflicts between him and his brother, writing "Peace and much love." The post included a photograph of the two brothers from the 1986 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Julian has also publicly expressed his affection for Sean, most recently in a December 2024 post where he shared photos of them together at The Dakota building in Manhattan.
Both Sean and Julian have followed their father into the music industry. Sean works as a producer and musician and is also involved in managing his parents' artistic legacy. He has been in a relationship with Muhl since 2007, and they perform together in the musical duo The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
Sean Lennon was five years old when his father was fatally shot outside his New York apartment in December 1980. John Lennon and Yoko Ono were married to their respective spouses, Cynthia Powell and Anthony Cox, when they first met in 1966.
Julian Lennon has previously spoken about a strained relationship with his stepmother, Yoko Ono, regarding his father's estate, including a lawsuit in 1996 that was settled with Ono's authorization. In a 1999 interview, Julian referred to Ono as "her highness" and described their relationship as rocky due to her role as executor of Lennon's will.
