Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, 53, unveiled a much-shorter hairstyle Thursday, posting video of a shoulder-length bob cut by celebrity stylist Chris McMillan.
In the clip Guthrie shared, she stood in the studio alongside McMillan as she ran her hands through highlighted brown hair styled in loose waves. A text overlay on the video read, "I did a thing with @MrChrisMcMillian," and Guthrie captioned the post, "Of course I did," followed by a scissors emoji. She appeared in a black-and-white polka-dot blouse and black skirt as the two laughed while Lizzo's "Good As Hell" played in the background.
McMillan posted additional photos and video from the studio on his own account, writing, "Most fun morning with @JennaAndFriends and everyone at the @TodayShow. Savannah Guthrie has debuted a drastic new haircut." He added, "Thank you so much for having me and can't wait to share more." McMillan, who has more than 408,000 followers on Instagram, also gave co-host Jenna Bush Hager a trim during the visit and cut the hair of two studio audience members on air.
McMillan has been widely credited with creating the hairstyle made famous by Jennifer Aniston during her run on the sitcom Friends, popularly known as "The Rachel." McMillan's presence at the Today studios came days after Guthrie was confronted on air with a throwback headshot from the 1990s.
During a live segment outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza earlier in the week, co-host Craig Melvin spotted a fan holding a dated headshot of Guthrie from her reporting days at KVOA in Tucson, Arizona. Melvin asked the guest, identified on the broadcast as Carol, "Where did you find this picture?" The guest replied, "Found it online." Guthrie approached to inspect the photograph, joking, "Well, welcome!" and later saying, "I don't think we need to see that!" The exchange included a reference to 1990s hair trends and a joking nod to "the Rachel."
Guthrie's social-media post and McMillan's studio work mark the latest public appearance and styling change for the anchor. Neither Guthrie nor representatives for the Today show provided further comment beyond the social posts.
