Sarah Pidgeon, who stars as Carolyn Bessette in the Disney drama "Love Story," has spoken about the intense adjustment to sudden fame, a challenge that mirrored her character's own experiences with public scrutiny. The series chronicles the high-profile courtship and marriage of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.
Pidgeon, 30, told Elle UK that the overnight success of the show led to significant changes in her life. She admitted that when the show first premiered, she "broke out in hives" due to anxiety. "Had I understood what the show would become while we were filming it, I would have been crippled with anxiety," she explained. "When I heard that the first cuts were coming together, I broke out in hives. It suddenly became a reality that people were going to see it."
The actress described her current life as "very abnormal" compared to previous years, involving extensive travel, work, attending fashion events, photoshoots, and late-night television appearances. "It's so different from anything I've experienced. It's been a big change," Pidgeon said. She noted that friends commented on seeing her picture repeatedly on social media, to which she responded, "I'm sorry, I'm bored of it too."
Pidgeon stated her desire to protect her personal life and relationships amidst the increased attention. "No one wants a private moment captured. I don't want to change how I'm living, I like my life. But I'm making small adjustments," she said. "I want to protect the things that feel like they're just for me, or the people in my life."
Before her role in "Love Story," Pidgeon appeared in the Hulu series "Tiny Beautiful Things" and made her Broadway debut in "Stereophonic." She is set to receive the Modern Muse award at the ELLE Style Awards 2026. "Love Story" is a nine-part drama that details the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, culminating in their deaths along with Lauren Bessette in a plane crash on July 16, 1999.
The October issue of ELLE UK, featuring Pidgeon, is available from September 3.
