Saoirse Ronan unveiled a distinctive short fringe while attending the screening of her directorial debut short film, "Paper Plane," at the 83rd Venice Film Festival on Thursday. The 32-year-old actress graced the red carpet in a navy maxi dress featuring a thigh-high slit.

"Paper Plane" explores themes of childhood, innocence, and familial connection, as Ronan stated it serves as a "love letter to a younger version of myself, and a younger version of my mother." The film's narrative centers on a young girl's protest against her father's disruptive presence, prompting her mother to make a difficult decision.

Ronan's appearance comes amid growing reports that she is being considered for a villainous role in the upcoming James Bond film. She has expressed a desire to portray a Bond villain, telling Empire magazine, "I want to go dark. I think it would be really interesting, having a young, female villain." She further elaborated on the potential impact, stating, "Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere."

Amazon MGM Studios acquired full control of the James Bond franchise last year and is reportedly in the casting process for the next installment, with an announcement anticipated this autumn and filming potentially starting at the turn of the year. Producer Amy Pascal indicated that the next Bond film would aim for something "really different that is stirring and exciting."

Speculation has arisen that the film could feature a real-life married couple as the spy and his nemesis, with Ronan's husband, actor Jack Lowden, also reportedly in contention for the role of 007. The couple, who first met on the set of "Mary Queen of Scots" in 2018 and married in July 2024, have a young child. Ronan has previously voiced support for Lowden taking on the iconic role.

Other actors rumored to be in the running for the Bond role include Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, and Tom Holland. More recently, British actor Jack Barton has emerged as a contender, with screen tests reportedly underway. Casting directors are said to favor Barton, while Amazon is reportedly leaning towards a more established actor. Former Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams has previously advocated for casting a newcomer to the role, emphasizing the importance of an actor with minimal public recognition to maintain the mystique of a spy character.
