Saoirse Ronan and her husband, actor Jack Lowden, have welcomed their first child, the Daily Mail reported Thursday.

Ronan, 31, and Lowden, 35, were photographed earlier this month on a low-key walk in London while pushing a baby buggy, according to images obtained by The Sun and published by British outlets. The couple's pregnancy first became public when Ronan revealed a baby bump at the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2026 show during Paris Fashion Week in May and was subsequently confirmed by multiple media organizations.

A source on the set of Lowden's current project told reporters that the news was welcomed by colleagues and would be accommodated with paternity arrangements, but that filming could not stop entirely. "It is such lovely news that Jack has become a father and nobody would ever have an issue with him taking paternity leave," the source said. "But the show must go on, and that means the producers have had to keep on filming and that has meant they have had to have some stand-ins for Mr. Darcy. So it has been a case of lookalikes for Jack so that there is no disruption."

Lowden is in the midst of filming a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in which he is cast as Mr. Darcy. Production sources said the arrival of his child has slowed the schedule and required occasional stand-ins; representatives for the production did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Ronan and Lowden married in Edinburgh less than a year before announcing the pregnancy. The two met on the set of the 2018 historical drama Mary Queen of Scots, in which Ronan starred as Mary and Lowden played Lord Darnley.

Ronan has previously spoken about her desire to be a parent. In a rare interview last year she said she had become successful young and that, having found a partner, she was at a stage in life when she would welcome children. "I've always wanted that," she said. Lowden has spoken openly of his admiration for Ronan, calling her "a force of nature, on and off-screen" during a Build Series panel appearance.

Ronan is set to appear next as a teacher in the thriller Bad Apples. Lowden's profile has risen with roles in period dramas and recent speculation in the British press about potential future casting as James Bond, and he is expected to continue work on the Pride and Prejudice project as scheduling permits.

Neither Ronan's nor Lowden's representatives issued an immediate statement confirming the birth. Media outlets that first reported the arrival cited photographs of the couple out with a buggy and unnamed production sources discussing the impact on Lowden's current filming commitments.

The couple have kept their relationship and family life largely private since their marriage. Public appearances in the past year included a February red-carpet outing at the BAFTAs and Ronan's May appearance at Paris Fashion Week, where observers first noted her pregnancy. The births of high-profile actors' children typically prompt brief pauses in promotional and production schedules; in this case, production officials have indicated adjustments rather than a full halt to filming.

Further details about the newborn, including name and exact date of birth, were not available at the time of publication.
