Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden have become parents, the couple’s representatives confirmed on Thursday. The Little Women actor and the Scottish actor were seen earlier this month pushing a buggy during a low‑key stroll in London.

The pair, who married in Edinburgh less than a year ago, were photographed with the newborn while keeping their outing private. Images obtained by a tabloid showed the couple close together, with Lowden looking into the stroller as Ronan walked beside him.

Ronan’s pregnancy was first noticed publicly in May, when she unveiled a visible baby bump at the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2026 show during Paris Fashion Week. Outlets later confirmed the pregnancy. The couple met while working on the 2018 historical drama Mary Queen of Scots, in which Ronan played the title role and Lowden portrayed Lord Darnley.

In interviews last year Ronan spoke candidly about wanting to become a parent. "I became successful when I was quite young," she said. "It meant that by the time I found my partner, I'm at the stage where if it happened, I would like to have a kid. I've always wanted that." She later added that stepping away from work for a time felt possible without sacrificing her career.

Lowden is currently filming a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in which he is cast as Mr. Darcy. A source on set said producers have continued shooting during the actor’s brief absence by using stand‑ins to avoid disrupting the schedule. "It is such lovely news that Jack has become a father and nobody would ever have an issue with him taking paternity leave," the source said. "But the show must go on, and that means the producers have had to keep on filming and that has meant they have had to have some stand‑ins for Mr Darcy. So it has been a case of lookalikes for Jack so that there is no disruption."

Lowden has previously praised Ronan’s work and leadership. Speaking on a Build Series panel, he called her "a force of nature on and off‑screen, and utterly fearless and a brilliant leader as well."

Ronan, 31, and Lowden, 35, largely keep their private life out of the spotlight. Ronan’s recent credits include work across film festivals and commercial releases, and she is lined up to play a teacher in the forthcoming thriller Bad Apples. Lowden has been linked to several high‑profile projects and has been the subject of speculation in British media as a potential future James Bond; he is now also taking on the canonical role of Mr. Darcy.

Neither the couple nor their representatives released further details about the child, including sex or name, and they have not announced any public plans. The birth marks a new chapter for both actors, who rose to international prominence through a mix of period drama and contemporary films and have continued to work while guarding much of their family life from public view.
