Sandra Bullock has described red carpet events as a "nightmare," admitting she dreads posing alongside her "goddess" co-star Nicole Kidman.
Bullock, 62, and Kidman, 59, are currently promoting their film "Practical Magic 2," which is set to be released in the UK on September 11 and in the US on September 12. The actresses recently attended the film's London premiere, where they appeared glamorous despite Bullock's internal struggles.
Speaking on the "Good Hang with Amy Poehler" podcast, Bullock shared her feelings about red carpet appearances. "I'm not a red carpet gal," she stated. While acknowledging the stylish outfits and effective styling that made her feel comfortable, Bullock found the experience of being on the red carpet itself challenging.
"I was like, 'Okay, I've got this. I'm going to pretend, I'll work it,'" Bullock recalled. "Then I went, 'What's my face doing?' I was like, 'Why do I have stink face?' That's not what I was feeling."
Bullock suggested that a "comedy red carpet" would be a more suitable format for her. She even joked about removing Kidman from any events they attend together, referring to her as a "goddess."
The sequel to the 1998 film "Practical Magic" is adapted from Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel "The Book of Magic." The story picks up over 25 years after the original, with Kidman reprising her role as Sally Owens and Bullock returning as her sister Gillian. The film introduces the next generation of the Owens family, with Joey King and Maisie Williams playing Bullock's on-screen daughters. Lee Pace and Solly McLeod also star in the movie, which is executive produced by Warner Bros.
A synopsis for "Practical Magic 2" states: "The Owens women must once again unite, traveling from their home in Massachusetts to the United Kingdom to confront the source of their magic and save the next generation of their family."
Bullock and Kidman recently surprised fans by appearing at a Cinespia screening of the original "Practical Magic" at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. At the event, Bullock commented on the film's suitability for a cemetery setting, while Kidman thanked the audience for their support in getting the sequel made.
Kidman had confirmed in 2024 that she and Bullock would reprise their roles as the orphaned sisters, who come from a long line of witches. The original film featured Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as their eccentric aunts. Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the 1998 script, returned to write the sequel with Kelly Marcel and Georgia Pritchett. Both Bullock and Kidman served as producers, with Susanne Bier directing.
