Actor Sam Neill died of pneumonia, a representative confirmed Thursday. The 78-year-old star, known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in "Jurassic Park," passed away on Sunday in Sydney, Australia.
Philip Grenz, Neill's agent, stated that prior to becoming ill with pneumonia, the actor had "valiantly fought and beaten lymphoma" through CAR-T therapy. Neill's family clarified that he was cancer-free at the time of his death. His loved ones described his passing as "sudden" and "unexpected," and stated he died "with dignity" surrounded by family.

Neill, who was a private individual, will be honored in a private family memorial at his farm in New Zealand at a later date, according to Grenz. The agent also requested that those close to Neill consider his and his loved ones' privacy during this difficult time.
Career and Tributes
Before his death, Neill had completed four projects that are expected to be released in the coming months. His career spanned over 150 roles, including notable performances in "Peaky Blinders," "Hunt for the Wilderpeople," "The Piano," and "The Horse Whisperer."
Former co-stars paid tribute to Neill following the news of his death. Nicole Kidman, who acted with Neill in "Dead Calm," called him a "beloved lifetime friend" and a "joy to be around," remembering him as "charming, kind, funny, and intelligent."
Laura Dern, who played Neill's love interest in "Jurassic Park," echoed similar sentiments, referring to him as a "true and noble gentleman" and a "beloved lifetime friend." Cillian Murphy of "Peaky Blinders" stated he "admired and adored" Neill.
Neill is survived by four children.
