Salma Hayek's 18-year-old daughter, Valentina, has playfully teased her famous mother in a joint appearance on Instagram's CARversations series, offering insights into their dynamic.
Valentina, daughter of Hayek and French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, took aim at her mother's social media presence, particularly her Instagram bio. "That's gotta go," Valentina commented on the lengthy stream of emojis, likening it to an unedited thought process. Hayek defended her use of emojis, stating her preference for images, while Valentina questioned the randomness of icons like a duck, shooting star, tiger, and lollipop.
Hayek explained that Valentina had access to a private "teen account" on Instagram, which offered age-appropriate content and protections. The pair also engaged in vintage shopping, where Valentina expressed her disapproval of her mother's fashion sense, including floral and leopard print items. "That's always gonna be a no. It has pockets, Mom," Valentina stated when Hayek inquired about a particular dress.
In a recent interview with Elle, Hayek described her relationship with Valentina as one where her daughter feels free to express herself without judgment. "I have a daughter who knows she can say anything to me," Hayek said. "She doesn’t have to hold back or feel like she’s going to be judged. She can tease me, and she can just be herself. She’s fun...It’s so nice to do activities together, have a good time together, and be girls together."
Hayek also shared that Valentina took steps to protect her mother online, including blocking accounts on Instagram. Hayek admitted to not checking her direct messages as a personal boundary, preferring texts for urgent communication. Having had Valentina at 41, Hayek noted that she was not particularly tech-savvy even before her daughter's birth and entered the world of Instagram relatively late. "I got into Instagram quite late too, so for me, it was a completely new universe - and one that I actually learned to enjoy a lot," she said.
