Sacha Baron Cohen's satirical character Ali G is set to return to screens in a new film titled "Ali G: Who Iz I?", with the first trailer released on Tuesday. The mockumentary marks the character's first appearance in approximately 20 years.

In the trailer, Ali G announces his return, referencing a 20-year hiatus and humorously noting world events such as "covid, wars. And Ed Sheeran." He introduces the film as a documentary where "for the first time ever, this is with real people not actors." The synopsis states that after two decades, Ali G is surprised to learn his long-term girlfriend, Julie, is eight months pregnant.

The character, known for his distinctive slang and fashion, will navigate impending fatherhood. The trailer shows Julie, played by Morgana Robinson, revealing her pregnancy, with Ali G initially mistaking the test for a vape. The film is slated for release on October 23 by Amazon MGM Studios. This directorial debut for the 54-year-old Baron Cohen was reportedly filmed secretly across the UK and US.

"Ali G: Who Iz I?" follows the narrative of Ali G embarking on a trip to America to regain his former status, only to encounter adversaries. The film is the latest project featuring the character since his 2002 feature film, "Ali G Indahouse," which included notable actors such as Martin Freeman and Charles Dance.

Ali's long-term girlfriend Julie - the subject of the 2002 Ali G and Shaggy collaboration Me Julie - is seen to fall pregnant in the clip, however the hapless character struggles to believe the news and thinks her pregnancy test is a vape

Baron Cohen first teased the character's return with a surprise appearance at Wimbledon in July, sporting Ali G's signature jewelry and tracksuit. The character, originally introduced as the "voice of youth" on Channel 4's "The 11 O'Clock Show" in 1998, later headlined "Da Ali G Show" and "Ali G Indahouse." While Baron Cohen had previously announced Ali G's retirement in 2007, the character has reappeared periodically, including a notable appearance at the 2012 British Comedy Awards and "Ali G Rezurection" in 2014.

He was seen wearing a vast puffer jacket

The film's promotion included a poster shared on the official Ali G Instagram account, featuring the character in an oversized puffer jacket. This was accompanied by a caption nodding to his early text-speak style. A video of Ali G rapping about the film's release also surfaced, set to the tune of "Humpty Dumpty."
