A Los Angeles judge has issued a five-year restraining order against William Applegate, who repeatedly attempted to enter pop star Sabrina Carpenter's home. The order, granted on Wednesday, requires Applegate to remain at least 100 yards away from Carpenter and her household members, and prohibits him from attempting any form of communication.

Applegate, 31, appeared in court and asserted he and Carpenter were part of a classified military program requiring them to be together for "national and global security." He claimed Carpenter wanted him there and that he would comply if she personally asked him to stay away, alleging police and her representatives were obstructing him. Carpenter's attorney, Blair Berk, stated that the singer "is in fear for her own personal safety and the safety of members of her family."

In one incident last month, Applegate struck a security guard and was arrested after reaching the front door of Carpenter's Los Angeles residence, according to her petition. He had gained access by crossing through a neighboring property. Following subsequent attempts to approach her home, a temporary restraining order was issued on May 29.

Applegate admitted to his presence at Carpenter's home, maintaining his belief that his presence was desired by her. He also claimed that during Carpenter's Coachella festival performance in April, she had made eye contact with him as a form of communication. Carpenter, however, described Applegate in her petition as "a complete stranger" whom she has never met or communicated with.

Judge David L. Wasserman acknowledged Applegate's stated beliefs regarding global security but instructed him to obey the court's order. Applegate is currently under a criminal investigation, though no charges have been filed, according to court records.

Carpenter, 27, gained initial fame as a teen in the Disney Channel series "Girl Meets World" before launching a music career. Her 2022 album "Emails I Can't Send" marked a significant career breakthrough, followed by the success of her 2024 album "Short n' Sweet," which includes the chart-topping hits "Espresso" and "Please Please Please." These achievements have established her as a multiple Grammy winner and a prominent figure in global pop music.
