Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that a Ghost Rider movie is in development, with Ryan Gosling slated to portray the titular antihero. The announcement was made by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige during the studio's presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
The film is set to be directed by Shawn Levy, who recently collaborated with Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled for release in May 2027. This news fulfills years of speculation and fan casting regarding Gosling's potential involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Wow, is this really happening?" Gosling remarked to the Hall H crowd. "As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time."
Levy shared that discussions about Ghost Rider evolved from casual conversations into a concrete project. "As Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing," Levy said. "And I finally said, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ So guys, we’ll see you in 2028."
While specific plot details and which version of Ghost Rider Gosling will embody remain undisclosed, the announcement marks a significant addition to Marvel's upcoming slate.
Marvel's presentation also included other major reveals. Director Ryan Coogler is returning for a third Black Panther film, which will introduce David Jonsson as the son of T’Challa. Additionally, Avengers: Endgame is set to be re-released on September 25 with new footage. Attendees also received an early look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The event concluded with a showcase for Avengers: Doomsday, featuring a large ensemble cast and a surprise appearance by Ryan Reynolds. The studio's roadmap now extends through 2028, with the Ghost Rider film being a key component.
