Ruth Jones, widely recognized for her role in the hit series 'Gavin & Stacey,' has debuted a striking new look featuring grey hair as she concludes filming for an upcoming BBC comedy. Jones, 59, shared her transformation on Instagram on Friday, sparking discussion among fans about whether the change was permanent or part of her character's portrayal.

The new series, titled 'Better Later,' is a BBC comedy that Jones co-wrote with actor Steve Speirs, who also stars alongside her. The show reportedly explores the complexities of relationships for middle-aged individuals.

Jones will portray Shelly-Ann, a recently divorced 55-year-old environmental officer who forms a friendship with Clive, a 60-year-old retired teacher, after meeting at a knee trauma clinic.

This collaboration marks a reunion for Jones and Speirs, who previously worked together on 'Ruth and Steve: From Merthyr with Love,' which aired on BBC One Wales in June. Jones expressed her gratitude for the BBC's commission of the new series, stating, "I’m so grateful to the BBC for commissioning our new series. Steve and I are old friends and working with him is always a thrill. Can’t wait."

Speirs echoed this sentiment, adding, "Thanks to the team at the BBC for backing our new show. I’ve worked with Ruth for over 30 years and am really looking forward to doing it again!"

Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Wales, commented on the project, "It’s a total delight to be working with Ruth and Steve again! We’re having such a cool time in comedy at the moment with audiences coming in big numbers; to have this project now joining such a rich slate of content is beyond exciting. Superb news."

Jon Petrie, BBC Director of Comedy, shared his enthusiasm for the script, noting, "We were genuinely weak at the knees when this script first landed in our inboxes. It’s a rare thing to read something that feels so instantly special, and we cannot wait to see it come to life. Having comedy powerhouses like Ruth and Steve choose to bring this to the BBC is a real privilege, and we’re hugely grateful for their trust."
