New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson sought solace in a date night with his wife, Ciara, after a rough start to life in New York. Wilson arrived in the Big Apple in free agency this offseason, and the Giants stood 0-2 after an overtime defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Wilson signed a one-year contract worth up to $21 million with the Giants this summer, and the couple has begun adjusting to the pace of the city. Ciara, who hosted the House of ESPN event for New York Fashion Week, shared moments of the pair against the skyline, and she has been seen at the US Open in recent weeks supporting American tennis star Coco Gauff. The couple share three children, and Ciara also has son Future Zahir from a previous relationship.
On Sunday, the Giants trailed Dallas late in regulation, but Wilson connected on a 48-yard pass to Malik Nabers to retake the lead with 33 seconds left. Dallas responded with a 64-yard field goal as time expired to force overtime. In the extra period, Wilson threw a costly interception, helping Dallas seal the win with a 46-yard field goal.
Despite the setback, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported there is no sense of urgency to promote rookie Jaxson Dart ahead of Wilson, with the Giants preferring to let Dart learn behind the veteran quarterback for now.
New York's offensive production was not the issue in the defeat: the Giants racked up 506 yards of total offense. Still, the 0-2 start places the quarterback position under scrutiny as Wilson remains the starter for the time being, with Dart expected to continue learning behind him during the early portion of the season.
