Rupert Grint, widely recognized for his portrayal of Ron Weasley in the "Harry Potter" film series, is set to reprise the iconic character on Broadway in the stage production "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." Grint will join the cast at the Lyric Theatre from February 2 to May 30, 2027.

Grint, who appeared in all eight "Harry Potter" films between 2001 and 2011, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the role. "Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life," Grint stated. "There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new."

This marks the second instance of a principal film actor joining the stage adaptation. Earlier this year, Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the movies, reprised his role in the play, which producers noted contributed to a rise in box office receipts.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is set 19 years after the conclusion of the final novel, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." The narrative follows an adult Harry Potter, married to Ginny Weasley, Ron's sister. Ron is married to Hermione Granger, and both couples have children who face new dangers. In the play, Ron Weasley co-manages Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, a joke shop.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender highlighted the significance of Grint's casting. "His return creates a powerful bridge between the story audiences first fell in love with and the story of family, legacy and the passage of time that ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ carries forward," they said in a statement.

Grint previously made his Broadway debut in "It's Only a Play" and his West End debut in Jez Butterworth's "Mojo."
