Actress Ruby Rose was hospitalized with two broken ribs after slipping off the ledge of her backyard swimming pool, she announced on social media. The incident occurred as Rose was attempting to spray her garden with a hose.
Rose, 40, who is based in the United States but is Australian, posted a clip on Instagram Stories showing her falling into the water and experiencing distress as she hit the pool's edge. "RIP to my ribs, and the rest of my summer. They are broken, multiple. Straight to hospital, did not pass go or collect $200," she wrote on the platform.
Later, on Threads, Rose shared the clip again with a caption stating, "One second I'm here talking to you. The next I'm in the hospital with two broken ribs. What a bloody Monday."
This is not the first time Rose has experienced a significant injury. In 2019, she was hospitalized while performing a stunt for the CW series "Batwoman." At the time, she believed she had fractured a rib, but it was later discovered she had two herniated discs in her spine. She told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the injury caused her to experience chronic pain for months and that she had been told she could have become paraplegic if the condition had not been treated promptly.
Reflecting on the "Batwoman" incident in a recent interview with TV Week, Rose described the injuries as so traumatic that her brain would "literally shut down and turn off" when she attempted to discuss it publicly. She sought treatment at a trauma facility for three months in 2021 to learn how to talk about the experience without fainting. "It was a horrendous injury, and I was so very alone throughout the whole experience," she said.
Earlier this year, Rose revisited the trauma of her injuries in the SBS docu-series "The Hospital: In the Deep End." During the series, she also disclosed a past car crash that resulted in her being unconscious and flying through the car's windscreen. That incident led to a hospitalization of many weeks, during which she was unable to walk and relied on nurses for care.
