Romeo Beckham, 23, is embarking on a new career chapter with his upcoming acting debut in the film "Forty Love," scheduled for release in November. This move into Hollywood marks a significant shift from his previous pursuits in football, tennis, and modeling, as he seeks to carve out an identity independent of his globally recognized parents, David and Victoria Beckham.
"Forty Love" centers on a same-sex romance between two aspiring tennis players. Beckham plays a rival to the main character, Sacha Gallo, a tennis superstar. The film, directed by fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti, is described as a "sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story" that explores the pressures of high-level sport and the complexities of desire, competition, and identity. A source described Beckham as a "grafter" determined to "let his work speak for itself," with a desire to prove his acting capabilities.
Beckham's journey to acting has been varied. He began his career in the public eye with a modeling campaign for Burberry at age 10, later appearing on the cover of L'Uomo Vogue. He then followed a path in professional sports, joining the Arsenal FC Academy at a young age before transitioning to tennis. His tennis coach at the time noted his "extraordinary" skills and "good hand-eye coordination."
Despite an investment in a tennis court at the family home, Beckham returned to football, joining Fort Lauderdale CF, a sister club to his father's Inter Miami CF, in 2020. He made 20 appearances, contributing two goals and eight assists, and led the league in assists in September 2021. He later played for Premier League side Brentford's B team on loan and subsequently signed a permanent contract, helping them win the 2022–23 Premier League Cup.
In 2024, Beckham retired from football to focus on a fashion career, signing with a Paris-based agency. He has worked with luxury brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, and made runway debuts at Milan Fashion Week for Versace and Paris Fashion Week for Balenciaga. He also launched his own sportswear label, Intra, in June 2024.
Beckham is not the first in his family to venture into acting. His mother, Victoria Beckham, starred in the Spice Girls' 1997 film "Spice World." His father, David Beckham, has had several on-screen cameos, including guest spots on "Modern Family" and roles in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword."
