Roma Downey, 66, known for her role as Monica in the 1990s series "Touched by an Angel," has unveiled a dramatic new hairstyle. The Irish actress shared photos on Instagram this week showcasing a short, ash-blonde bob, a stark contrast to her long, red hair that became her signature look during her decades-long career.

Downey announced her transformation, stating, "Yep, that's me! I made a brave, bold move yesterday and got a summer haircut, oh la la, and I love it!! It's shorter than I've ever had. It's a super cute bob for summer. I think it looks very chic, very French!" She expressed hope that her fans would like the new look, noting, "I believe it's good to switch things up now and then, don't you think? Keeps things interesting and keeps us young in spirit."

The new style is the work of celebrity hairstylist Riawna Capri, whose clients include Selena Gomez and Julianne Hough. Downey received an outpouring of positive comments on her Instagram post, prompting her to share another update expressing her gratitude. "I appreciate all the support for my new haircut! So many of you have left nice messages. I know it's very different from my "Touched By an Angel" look," she wrote.

She acknowledged the significant change from her long red hair during the series, stating, "And yes, a blonde bob is totally different. But life keeps moving, time passing, and change is inevitable." Downey described the cut as feeling "cool and light and fresh and fun" for the summer. She also humorously noted her husband, producer Mark Burnett, likes the new style, adding that it makes her "feel sassy."

Downey and Burnett, who married in 2007, have previously spoken about aging together. In a 2023 interview, Downey shared a quote they have on a plaque: "Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be." She reflected on their relationship, saying, "I'm so grateful I have such a great partner and husband and someone to grow old with."
