Robbie Williams, 52, has spoken openly about his insecurities regarding hair loss and is contemplating the use of a toupee. The singer shared his concerns during an appearance on The Steve Bracknall podcast, citing the pressure to maintain a certain image as a performer.
"I'm losing my hair – this is all powder and scaffolding now," Williams told the podcast host. "Can you see the powder?" He explained that his profession as a popstar requires him to have "some sort of looks and some sort of hair."
Williams indicated he is considering "hair systems," also known as toupees, to address his thinning hair. A hair system is described as a partial hairpiece designed to cover bald spots or thinning areas.
This discussion about his appearance follows recent revelations from Williams about his health. Earlier in August, he disclosed that he has been diagnosed with "a little bit of autism" in addition to ADHD, a diagnosis he has received multiple times. He also recently shared that he has been secretly living with Tourette syndrome.
Williams has described his diagnoses as providing him with a "get-out-of-jail-free card," allowing him to attribute his "weird s***" to his neurodevelopmental conditions. He explained that while ADHD allows for intense focus on specific tasks, such as creative endeavors, it makes concentration on other matters difficult.
He further elaborated on his mental state, sharing an example of intrusive thoughts that occurred while on a plane, where he worried about having telekinesis and causing the plane to crash. Williams stated that he trains his brain towards creative pursuits to avoid dwelling on such anxieties.
Tourette syndrome is characterized by involuntary sounds and movements known as tics, while ADHD is a neurobiological condition marked by inattentiveness and impulsivity. Williams has previously spoken about his struggles with addiction, having undergone multiple stints in rehab for alcohol and drug use since rising to fame in the early 1990s.
