River City actor Iain Robertson has been found guilty of rape and assaulting two other women, leading to his immediate detention. The 45-year-old faces a substantial jail sentence following his conviction on five charges at the High Court in Glasgow. The crimes, which Robertson denied, occurred between 2004 and 2020.

Jurors convicted Robertson of raping a 36-year-old woman between 2018 and 2019 and carrying out a separate sexual assault against her. He had lodged a special defense claiming any intimacy with this woman was consensual. Evidence presented during the trial also included testimony from a second woman regarding a sexual incident in the Lake District in September 2007. While jurors did not deliver a verdict on this specific accusation, the woman testified that Robertson had sex with her without her consent following an argument. Robertson was also found guilty of engaging in a course of abusive behavior with the rape victim.

Further convictions include assaulting the woman from the Lake District incident, which involved pouring wine over her and her university coursework, and engaging in threatening and abusive behavior towards a third woman, a fellow actor. This third woman described an incident in 2014 where Robertson lunged at her during an argument, causing her to fear physical violence. Following their breakup, she reported being subjected to persistent calls and voicemails from Robertson, who also sent snack boxes to theaters where she was performing.

Robertson was acquitted of one assault charge and engaging in abusive behavior with a fourth woman. He testified during the trial, admitting he was "no angel" but maintaining his innocence. The prosecution, however, described his testimony as "wholly incredible and unreliable."

Robertson, who has a prior minor assault conviction and road traffic offenses, had not previously served time in jail. He was placed on the sex offenders list following the verdicts. His defense attorney had requested bail pending sentencing, but the judge denied it, stating that Robertson's situation had changed significantly. Sentencing is scheduled to take place next month in Edinburgh. Since the accusations emerged, Robertson's defense indicated he has been "frozen out by the acting profession."
