Riley Keough and her husband, stuntman Ben Smith-Petersen, have welcomed a second child, the actress's representative confirmed to Page Six on Wednesday.
Images first published in late August by the Daily Mail showed Keough with a baby in her arms, and the representative’s confirmation on Wednesday made public that the couple has added to their family. The new arrival joins the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Tupelo, who was born in August 2022 and whose birth was publicly mentioned by Keough the following January.
Keough, 36, and Smith-Petersen, 34, married in February 2015 after becoming engaged in 2014. The couple met around 2012 on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road, in which Keough played the character Capable. Smith-Petersen is a stunt performer originally from Australia. They have generally maintained a low public profile and are rarely photographed with their children.
The couple’s first child, Tupelo, was carried by a surrogate. Keough later said she chose that route after being diagnosed with Lyme disease and because of concerns about potential autoimmune complications. In a Vanity Fair interview, Keough said she could carry children but decided surrogacy felt like the best choice given her medical situation, and she praised the decision as a "selfless, and incredible act" by women who choose to help others in that way.
Keough has balanced private family life with a public career. She recently appeared at the Venice International Film Festival in late August for the premiere of Jay Kelly, a film directed by Noah Baumbach and co-written by Baumbach and Emily Mortimer. The film stars George Clooney as the title character and Adam Sandler as his manager, and it features an ensemble that includes Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Jim Broadbent, Patrick Wilson, Greta Gerwig, Emily Mortimer, Isla Fisher and Stacy Keach.
Keough first rose to wider public attention through her acting work and her family background; she is a granddaughter of Elvis Presley and the daughter of the late Lisa Marie Presley. Keough referenced her daughter Tupelo in a moving eulogy for her mother when Lisa Marie Presley died.
A representative for the couple did not immediately provide additional details about the new child, including the date of birth or the child’s name. Keough and Smith-Petersen have previously signaled a preference for privacy around family matters while continuing to promote Keough’s film projects on the festival circuit.
