Rihanna marked her return to Barbados’ annual Crop Over festival on Monday, participating in the Grand Kadooment Day parade in a dazzling, bejeweled costume. The 38-year-old Fenty founder donned a vibrant outfit featuring peacock feathers, gems, and an ornate jeweled headpiece paired with large, feathered wings in turquoise, pink, and orange.
Local designer Lauren Austin created the elaborate Carnival costume, continuing a collaboration that began in 2013. Austin told Vogue in 2017 that Rihanna is daring with her style and unafraid to wear what she chooses. She emphasized the importance of full costume to fully embrace the Crop Over spirit, describing it as exhilarating, free, and radiant.
Grand Kadooment Day is the culminating event of Barbados' month-long harvest festival, which celebrates the end of the sugar cane season and has roots dating back to the 17th century. Videos shared on social media depicted Rihanna interacting with fans, waving from a float, and dancing alongside her brother Rorrey Fenty’s band Aura.
This year’s appearance marks one of Rihanna’s recent public events. She last participated in the Crop Over parade in 2024, wearing a pink and orange bejeweled costume, and in 2019, she wore a hot pink feathered minidress. Despite missing some years due to professional and family commitments, the singer, who is a mother of three, is a frequent attendee of the August festivities.
The festival appearance follows a busy summer for the artist. In July, she made a surprise return to the stage for Jay-Z’s concert at Yankee Stadium, her first performance in years. She has also been featured in recent Savage X Fenty lingerie campaigns.
Rihanna, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, and her partner A$AP Rocky are parents to three children: sons RZA and Riot, and a 10-month-old daughter named Rocki.
