Prince Harry may find opportunities in British television upon his return to the UK, according to television producer Richard Osman. While speculation about his wife Meghan Markle's acting career has surfaced, Osman believes Harry could establish a presence on screen.
Osman, who has an extensive background in television production, having worked on shows like "Pointless" and "8 Out of 10 Cats," suggested that Harry could have a successful media career with occasional television appearances. "I think you could build a fairly nice media career for Harry where he just appears on television every now and again and is very happy doing that," Osman stated on the podcast "The Rest is Entertainment." He proposed that Harry would be well-suited for comedy entertainment programs such as "The Wheel with Michael McIntyre," noting that the format would be low-pressure and allow Harry to appear either successful or self-deprecating.
Osman also revealed he has conceptualized a new show for Prince Harry, titled "Harry's Special Forces." He described the program as a blend of "DIY SOS" and "Challenge Anneka," where Harry would collaborate with army veterans to rebuild something, such as a house or community center. The show would also highlight the skills of these veterans to potential employers. "I've got a show called Harry's Special Forces. It's like DIY SOS meets Challenge Anneka. And it is exactly that thing of something needs rebuilding, a house needs rebuilding, community centre needs rebuilding but he does it with a bunch of army veterans," Osman explained.
Regarding the public's interest in the couple, Osman suggested that a significant portion of the population remains open to watching them if they are involved in interesting projects. "8% of people have a definite opinion on Harry and Meghan already, right? One way or the other. 4% one way, 4% the other way. You've still got 92% of people who are like, 'oh, yeah, well, if he's doing something interesting, I'll watch it if she's in something,'" he said.
Meanwhile, reports emerged that Meghan Markle's potential role in the third season of Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentlemen" has been withdrawn. Royal author Tina Brown reportedly stated that the offer was rescinded due to intense backlash in Britain, making it "untenable to go forward." This alleged development casts doubt on Meghan's acting comeback, despite her previous assertions of being done with acting in a 2022 Variety interview. Sources close to the Duchess had previously suggested a return to acting was a reason for the couple's reported intention to move back to Britain.
Osman, however, expressed a differing view on Meghan's acting prospects. He believes she should focus on her acting career, referencing her previous success as Rachel Zane in the legal drama "Suits." "Do your acting. I really, really think if you're something, just do that. Do the thing that you're good at," Osman advised. He argued that pursuing a profession one is trained for allows for greater authenticity. Meghan has a small cameo in the upcoming film "Close Personal Friends," but a role in "The Gentlemen" would have marked a more substantial return to acting. Netflix and a spokesperson for the Duchess declined to comment on the withdrawal of the reported offer.
