Richard Gere recently celebrated his 77th birthday surrounded by his family. His wife, Alejandra Silva, shared photos on Instagram of the celebration, which included their six-year-old son, James Gere.
Silva posted a heartfelt tribute to her husband, writing, "No one I rather spend my life with, happy birthday, I love you, we love you 🥰." The accompanying images showed the couple embracing and their son joining in the hug. Another photo featured Silva with the family pets.
Gere and Silva, who married in 2018, relocated their family to Spain in 2024 to be closer to Silva’s family and cultural roots. They share two sons, Alexander and James.
Silva previously spoke about the family's plan to divide their time between Spain and the United States, stating, "For a few years [we’ll live in Spain], and then come back. But we're always coming back." She noted that they plan to return to the U.S. during the summer for their sons' camp sessions.
Gere had expressed his anticipation for the move to Spain in 2024, telling Vanity Fair Spain that living full-time outside the United States would be a significant adventure. He also anticipated it would be beneficial for his children to experience another culture. "For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture," Gere said at the time. "She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so I think it's fair that I give her at least six others living in hers."
In November 2024, Gere told Fox News Digital that while New York City had long been his home, he also loved Spain and Madrid. He emphasized the importance of his wife being near her family and friends, and the value of his children living within a different cultural environment. "I think it's great to be living — not just visiting — but living in another culture," he stated.
