Reese Witherspoon and her son, Deacon Phillippe, made a notable appearance at the premiere of the "Legally Blonde" prequel series, titled "Elle," in New York City. The 50-year-old actress was accompanied by her 22-year-old son, whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.
Phillippe, who recently graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, towered over his mother on the red carpet. Witherspoon, standing at 5'1", was seen in a lacy pink off-the-shoulder dress, accessorized with open-toe nude heels. Her blonde hair was styled with a side part. Phillippe wore a black suit, a white shirt, and a magenta tie, complemented by aviator sunglasses.
The series "Elle" follows a teenage Elle Woods as she navigates Beverly Hills High School. Lexi Minetree, 25, stars as the young Elle Woods and was also in attendance at the premiere. Minetree was selected by Witherspoon for the role. She shared that during her audition, she recreated Elle's iconic Harvard admissions video from the original film.
Minetree told Jimmy Fallon that she watched the original "Legally Blonde" movie approximately 150 times to prepare for her role. She also mentioned that people frequently tell her she resembles Witherspoon.
Witherspoon expressed her gratification in seeing Minetree take on the role. "Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it's a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with," Witherspoon said in a press release. She added that the series' themes of kindness, authenticity, and self-belief are expected to resonate with both fans of the original films and new audiences. The actress also confirmed that the series has already been renewed for a second season.
The first episode of "Elle" is scheduled to begin streaming on July 1. The premiere also saw appearances from actress Zoe Lister-Jones and "Elle" star June Diane Raphael, who attended with her husband, Paul Scheer, and their sons.
