Reese Witherspoon said she is "so excited" for Taylor Swift after the singer announced her engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, renewing public support that the actress has offered since the couple’s August announcement.

Speaking to Access Hollywood on the red carpet at Tuesday’s premiere of The Morning Show in New York City, Witherspoon said the engagement was "really special" and that fans often feel connected to a public figure "when you've watched somebody grow up and change and stand up for themselves and grow into this beautiful relationship." She added, "Everybody loves a love story."

Witherspoon first reacted publicly to the engagement in late August with an Instagram Stories video in which she said, "Guys, we're trying to concentrate and do work here and Taylor Swift got engaged and it's very exciting." A friend showed her a photograph of Swift's ring during the clip; Witherspoon briefly mouthed, "Oh my God," and wrote in the post's caption, "Did anyone else's work day go completely out the window because @taylorswift is engaged?"

Swift, 35, and Kelce, 35, announced their engagement on Aug. 26, sharing photos of the couple embracing and showing off a diamond ring in a joint Instagram post with the caption, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."

Both Swift and Witherspoon have previously dated the same actor, Jake Gyllenhaal. Witherspoon was linked to Gyllenhaal from about 2007 to 2009; Swift was publicly associated with the actor in 2010.

People magazine reported this week that Swift and Kelce plan to keep their wedding small and private. A source told People the couple "want to keep it more private" and described the forthcoming ceremony as "definitely be a private affair and not a spectacle," adding that the pair have a close circle of friends and will "respect their privacy." The source also said Swift is "incredibly happy" and that the couple feel like they are "living a dream."

Separately, a DailyMail report said the wedding may take place at Swift’s oceanfront estate in Watch Hill, Rhode Island — the property where Swift has hosted past Fourth of July gatherings. The DailyMail account attributed the site selection to sources close to the couple; People has not independently confirmed a venue.

Members of Kelce’s family have publicly expressed enthusiasm about the engagement. Jason Kelce and his wife, Kylie, told Good Morning America that their daughters are "thrilled" to be gaining another aunt, and Kylie said, "We could not be more excited for them and what the future holds. We love love, and we love Taylor and Trav." People reported that both Jason and his parents, Donna and Ed Kelce, are supportive of the relationship, and a source told the magazine that Swift "goes out of her way to show the whole family how much she cares for not just Travis, but all of them, down to Jason's kids."

Witherspoon’s renewed comments come as Swift and Kelce navigate widespread public attention to their relationship, which has been closely followed by fans and media since they began dating in 2023. The actress’ remarks underscore a recurring theme in celebrity culture: public figures responding to peers’ major life events and the continuing media focus on the personal ties that link stars across generations and industries.
