Reading Festival, traditionally a rite of passage for students celebrating exam results, is expanding its offerings to cater to an older, more affluent demographic with the introduction of premium camping options and an "over 21s" campsite.

The new "Vista" campsite is exclusively for festivalgoers aged 21 and above, aiming to provide a more relaxed environment away from younger attendees. This area features amenities such as private showers and enhanced toilet facilities, distinguishing it from the festival's more basic camping arrangements.

Beyond the Vista campsite, the festival has introduced "Lotus Boutique" camping, which bills itself as the "ultimate luxury camping experience." These packages can reach prices in the thousands of pounds. For instance, a weekend stay in the Lotus Boutique campsite with four single beds is priced at £1,408.25. This premium option includes luxury toilets, showers, a pamper area, and access to exclusive lounge areas with all-day shade.

While the accommodation price includes these luxury facilities, it does not include festival tickets, which must be purchased separately. Additional costs apply for food and drinks at on-site restaurants and bars, as well as for cocktails and boutique dining. The festival also offers a "Crew Hut" option with two single beds for £868.25, though bedding is not provided.

Single-day tickets for Friday and Saturday are priced at £205, with weekend camping tickets being an additional cost on top of accommodation packages. Other premium add-ons include a "PayPal+ presents The Lounge Upgrade - Weekend" ticket for £182.50, offering access to a chill-out area and pamper facilities.

This year's festival features a lineup including Charli XCX, Raye, Dave, Florence + The Machine, and Fontaines D.C. The event is scheduled to take place from August 27 to August 30. Organizers have also applied for a licensing change that could allow music on the main stage for a fourth day, starting on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to midnight, from next year, as well as extending alcohol sales hours.

Reading Festival has a long history, with past performers including Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, and Kendrick Lamar. Last year's headliners were Chappell Roan and Travis Scott. The festival organizers are seeking to broaden its appeal while retaining its core identity as a major music event.
