A new exhibition showcasing rare items from David Bowie's career is set to embark on a tour, with its opening stop in Dundee this November. The exhibition, organized by the V&A, will present a variety of stage costumes, musical instruments, and drawings, offering a comprehensive look at the artist's creative journey. "Bowie Through a Lens" will explore photography's role in shaping Bowie's public image, featuring works by notable photographers such as Terry O'Neill, Mick Rock, Sukita, and Brian Ward.
Another section, titled "All the Somebody People," delves into Bowie's performances and studio work across four distinct periods: the Ziggy Stardust era, his influential Berlin years, the "Let's Dance" phase, and his final album, "Blackstar." This section will include stage costumes and instruments that defined these iconic periods.
"Hooked to the Silver Screen" highlights Bowie's work in film and television, encompassing music videos, cinematic roles, and guest appearances. The exhibition's concluding part, "I Can't Give Everything Away," focuses on Bowie's engagement with themes of time, his creative process, and his lasting legacy. This segment features personal items like the stopwatch he used during songwriting, his 1988 British passport, and notes exchanged with his archive team regarding items he wished to keep.
