Rachel Zegler marked the close of her limited run in the West End revival of Evita on Saturday, calling the production a “dream” and thanking the cast, crew and audiences for what she described as a career-affirming experience following a difficult box-office year.
In an Instagram carousel of black-and-white photos, the 24-year-old actor and singer said she “never imagined i’d get to be a part of something so celebrated in this lifetime,” and described playing the title role as “a dream role in a dream show with a dream director and a dream choreographer and a dream cast (!!!) and a dream crew.” She added that the friendships formed during the run were “forever,” and that the memories of the summer’s performances moved her to tears during curtain calls.
Zegler said roughly 220,000 people attended shows inside the London Palladium during the 12-week limited engagement and thanked “the over 130,000 descamisados who showed up at our balcony everyday.” She singled out director Jamie Lloyd "for everything," writing, "The truth is i shall not leave you." Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, whose score anchors the musical, also congratulated the company and said the standing ovation at the final performance was "the longest in history of the London Palladium."
The production represents a high-profile stage return for Zegler after the live-action Snow White later released this year underperformed at the box office. Zegler rose to prominence as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 West Side Story and has since appeared in several major films. Her screen credits include 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, as well as 2024 releases Y2K and the animated film Spellbound. She is a Golden Globe winner.
Zegler’s social-media post and the response from Lloyd Webber underline the West End production’s commercial and critical visibility during its run. The revival’s run at the London Palladium was limited and heavily marketed, drawing large audiences and often full houses, according to the numbers cited by the star.
The actor has also been the subject of tabloid attention around her personal life; she was seen in London last month with soccer player Nathan Louis-Fernand, with whom she has been linked.
Producers have not yet announced plans for future engagements or transfers of the revival. The Evita run concluded amid continued attention on Zegler’s career trajectory as she balances stage work with future film projects.
