Rachael Finch said she sliced the top of her thumb off while using a mandoline slicer and shared a photo on Instagram showing herself in an Uber on the way to the hospital.

The 37-year-old model posted the image with her injured thumb raised and wrapped in a tea towel and wrote: “Yep, sliced the top of my thumb off and put myself in an Uber to ER.” She added that her husband, Michael “Misha” Miziner, was at tennis with their children when the accident occurred and that she considers herself “pretty good at staying calm in these types of situations.” Finch also quipped that she is “not good at typing with my left hand.”

Finch said the injury happened while she was slicing cabbage. The mandoline slicer involved in the incident was a gift from My Kitchen Rules star Ash Pollard. Pollard confirmed on Instagram that she had given Finch the utensil, noting she had intended it as a helpful kitchen addition. Finch had previously sent Pollard a video of herself using the slicer before the accident.

Finch, a former Miss Universe Australia runner-up who has worked as a model and television personality, did not provide further medical updates in the post. The Instagram photo indicates she sought immediate medical attention after the injury.

Mandoline slicers are a common kitchen tool for producing thin, uniform slices of vegetables. Finch’s post drew attention on social media from followers and fellow television personalities, who responded to her update and the photograph she shared while headed to the emergency room.

No additional details about Finch’s medical treatment or recovery were included in her social posts on the day of the incident.
