A public memorial service has been announced for Matt Dee, a familiar face from the reality television show "Bondi Rescue," following his death last week. The service is scheduled to take place next Saturday, September 12, at Bronte Beach, where his ashes will be spread during a celebration of life.

The event will commence at midday, with attendees encouraged to participate in paddling out into the water as Dee's ashes are scattered. Following this, friends and family will gather for food, drinks, music, and an opportunity to share memories of Dee.

The North Maroubra Surf Riders group announced the memorial online, describing Dee as "a true legend" and "a man that had time for everyone, a larrikin, a brother to all and a leader of men." The group stated, "His time with us has come to an end, but we owe it to him to send him off in style."

Dee's passing was announced on his Instagram account on Wednesday. A statement on the account read, "Matt touched the lives of many. He also did amazing work, and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him."

Tributes have poured in from friends and former colleagues of Dee, who was a lifeguard on "Bondi Rescue" for nearly a decade, appearing on the show from 2008 to 2017.

Beyond his television work, Dee was dedicated to philanthropy and advocacy. He co-founded the non-profit organization FTW Revolution and worked to raise awareness for mental health issues. He was also an advocate for Suicide Prevention Australia. Dee's commitment to mental health awareness stemmed from personal tragedy, having lost both his sister, Rachel Bridger Dee, in December 2009 after a battle with schizophrenia, and his older brother, Jonathan, who had bipolar disorder, several months prior. Dee and his siblings were raised by their single mother in Melbourne.
