A book of condolence has been opened at Bradford City Hall, allowing the artist David Hockney's home city to pay tribute to him.

Hockney, who died on June 11 at the age of 88, was born and educated in Bradford and was widely regarded as one of the UK's most beloved artists. Bradford Council stated that the book would serve as a place for reflection for those whose lives have been "touched by Hockney's remarkable contribution to the world of art and culture."

During a meeting of Bradford Council on Wednesday, Lord Mayor Chris Herd honored Hockney, calling him one of the area's "most well-loved sons." Herd noted that Hockney's "extraordinary success" brought significant distinction to the district and helped establish Bradford on the global cultural stage. The artist was awarded the Freedom of the City in 2000.
