Priyanka Chopra Jonas attributes the success of her eight-year marriage to singer Nick Jonas to his deep respect for her culture and traditions, alongside mutual kindness and sincerity.
"I think it's really important to have a sense of respect for your partner's roots," Chopra told E! News at the New York City premiere of "The Cycle of Love." She noted that a partner's willingness to embrace cultural differences is a significant aspect of any multicultural relationship.
Chopra and Jonas, who married in a multi-day ceremony in India in 2018, have continued to honor her Indian heritage. They welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, via surrogate in 2022 and share their observance of Hindu traditions and holidays. The couple also shared photos from a family trip to India with their daughter in 2023.
In a February interview with Variety, Chopra highlighted Jonas' sincerity as a key element in their bond. "Nick has this absolute sincerity," she said. "It inspires me every day in a profession which requires you to pivot and become whatever you need to put on." She described his transparency as "disarming" and noted that his upbringing by "wonderful, levelheaded, absolute saints" likely contributed to this quality.
Chopra also shared that Jonas' comfort with his own sincerity has helped her become more comfortable with her own "awkwardness and insecurities." She finds his genuine nature inspiring, stating, "We don't see it often enough anymore, that deep truth when you just start talking to someone. You're like, 'Oh, this person is completely transparent.'"
Jonas previously spoke about his instant connection with Chopra. In a 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight, he recalled, "It was kind of an instant thing." He added that upon solidifying their connection, he knew he had found "a partner for life and a teammate, someone I could walk through the good times and the bad times with, and that was the key."
