The Prix Versailles Awards have unveiled their list of the world's most beautiful restaurants, recognizing five European establishments for their exceptional design and ambiance. Among the honorees is London's Carbone, an Italian-American restaurant located in Mayfair.
The awards, presented annually, celebrate venues that embody "multi-faceted beauty" and strike a balance between "raw elegance and mouthwatering eye candy." Beyond aesthetics, the judging criteria also consider how well a restaurant integrates into its environment, creates a welcoming atmosphere, and offers a unique experience to diners.
Carbone, situated in the historic former U.S. Embassy building in Grosvenor Square, was noted for its 1950s American supper club vibe. Judges highlighted its velvet banquettes, lacquered woodwork, contemporary art, and a distinctive private dining room described as "akin to a theatrical experience." The restaurant, which opened last year within the Chancery Rosewood hotel, serves upscale Italian-American classics.
Other European restaurants honored include Le Fou in Vienna, Austria, a flamboyant cocktail bar within The Leo Grand hotel, praised for its "rust and terracotta tones" and expressive design featuring silk, mohair velvet, and natural stone.

Finlandia Bistro in Helsinki, Finland, located in the architecturally significant Finlandia Hall, was recognized for its harmonious blend of the building's original 1971 features with modern additions. The restaurant offers local Finnish fare with international influences.
Marlow in Monte Carlo, Monaco, was lauded for its understated elegance, contrasting with the principality's typical high glamour. The cafe lounge features British-inspired interiors, wood paneling, and bespoke furniture, offering a relaxed atmosphere for brunch, afternoon tea, and cocktails.
Monti in Gstaad, Switzerland, a contemporary rustic restaurant within The Alpina hotel, was celebrated for its modern take on a traditional chalet. Its interiors combine exposed wood, clean lines, and natural textures, creating an elegant and sociable setting with mountain views.
Globally, the list of 16 restaurants includes diverse venues such as a mountain chalet, a beach club, and a skyscraper cocktail bar. Since the awards' inception in 2017, the United States has received the most accolades with 28 awards, followed closely by China with 25. Notably, France, a global culinary powerhouse, has secured 18 awards, though none of its restaurants made this year's specific European selection.
The Prix Versailles will also announce its most aesthetic airports and passenger stations later this year.
