Jodie Foster, 62, drew attention for a notably youthful appearance during multiple appearances at the Toronto International Film Festival last week, and plastic surgeons who reviewed video of her stage appearance said her look is more likely the product of conservative, non-surgical measures or good skincare than extensive cosmetic surgery.

Surgeons cited by the Daily Mail said Foster’s forehead appeared smooth and her cheeks looked slightly fuller than in older photographs, but that other facial areas — including the lower face and neck — still showed lines and laxity that would be unusual after a surgical facelift. "It doesn't seem like Jodie Foster has done much, and it's very hard to tell if she's had any work done at all," Dr. David Pincus of Pincus Plastic Surgery in New York told the publication. He added that the midface fullness could reflect cheek filler, a subtle enhancement that restores age-related volume loss.

"That kind of change can sometimes be the result of cheek filler," Dr. Pincus said, explaining that fillers replace lost midface volume, add contour and can create a more youthful appearance without fundamentally altering facial character when used conservatively. Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon Dr. John Diaz told the Daily Mail he saw no evidence of facial surgery. "Her eyebrows are not elevated, her midface looks unchanged from previous older photographs," he said. "Her lower face and neck have lines, wrinkles, loose skin which suggests she has not had surgery."

Foster accepted the Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award onstage at the festival, wearing light makeup, a sheer black blouse and tailored trousers, with a short slicked-back bob. Her longtime preference for minimal makeup and visible skin texture has previously been discussed in profiles of the actress.

Her makeup artist has said she favors accessible skincare products. In February, Brett Freedman told Town & Country that Foster uses Farm House Fresh’s Three Milk Moisturizer, which contains cucumber extract and botanical milks as well as a peptide described by the brand as age-reversing. InStyle has reported she also uses products from Medik8, which include retinal and peptide-based formulas commonly marketed for anti-aging.

Foster has in the past spoken publicly about her stance against cosmetic surgery. A 2024 profile in The Atlantic quoted the actress as refusing "all forms of plastic surgery or other cosmetic alteration," saying she would prefer people remark on natural signs of aging than assume she had altered her face. In 2007 she told People she was "not against it for other people" but that cosmetic surgery was not "my thing."

Daily Mail reported the surgeons’ assessments after reviewing festival footage. Representatives for Foster did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
