Singer Pixie Lott made her West End debut on Saturday as Marilyn Monroe in the new production "Who Killed Marilyn?" at the Emerald Theatre.
Lott, 35, has adopted Monroe's signature look for the role, featuring a bleached blonde bob, red lipstick, and a white satin gown reminiscent of the one Monroe wore in the 1955 film "The Seven Year Itch." The play, written by Sharleen Cooper Cohen and directed by Philip Wm. McKinley, aims to delve into the life and the circumstances surrounding Monroe's death, which was officially ruled a probable suicide from a barbiturate overdose.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be stepping into the iconic shoes of Marilyn Monroe for 'Who Killed Marilyn?'," Lott stated. "I have always loved Marilyn; she is such a fascinating, timeless legend, and bringing her complex story to life on this beautiful stage and being her every night is an absolute dream come true for me."
Lott has previously expressed admiration for Monroe, noting the allure of her enigmatic persona. "I feel like she has so many secrets," Lott said in a 2016 interview. "Back in those days the stars weren't as accessible. There wasn't Instagram or Twitter and you wouldn't know what they were doing."
"Who Killed Marilyn?" is Lott's second theatre role. She previously played Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in the West End in 2016. The production explores the conspiracy theories that have surrounded Monroe's death since she was found at her Los Angeles home on August 5, 1962, at the age of 36.
Lott, who has two sons with her husband Oliver Cheshire, has also released new music this summer. She is part of a cast that includes Benjamin Dilloway, who portrays Monroe's second husband, playwright Arthur Miller.
"Who Killed Marilyn?" runs at the Emerald Theatre until October 29.
