Phyllida Law, a celebrated Scottish actress and the mother of esteemed actresses Emma and Sophie Thompson, has died at the age of 94. Her manager confirmed that she passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Glasgow in 1932, Law trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre school. It was there that she met her husband, Eric Thompson, a fellow actor, whom she married in 1957. Their daughters, Emma and Sophie Thompson, both followed in their parents' footsteps to become successful actresses.

Law’s career spanned several decades, beginning in the late 1950s with television appearances in shows such as "Dr Finlay’s Casebook," "Dixon of Dock Green," and "The Troubleshooters."

She later developed a notable film career in the 1980s. Law starred alongside her daughter Emma in Kenneth Branagh's "Peter's Friends" and also appeared with her other daughter, Sophie, in "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Jane Austen's Emma." She and Emma Thompson also portrayed mother and daughter in the film "The Winter Guest."

Law also lent her voice to a role in "Nanny McPhee." In 2014, she was recognized with an Officer of the Order of the British Empire award, attending the ceremony with her daughters.
