Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem arrived at the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday morning for the premiere of their new film, "Bunker." Cruz, 52, made a glamorous entrance at Hotel Excelsior in a plunging black gown with feathered shoulders, complemented by dark sunglasses and towering heels.
Bardem, 57, was attired in a sharp camel-colored suit and white shirt. The couple traveled to the Italian city for the Tuesday evening premiere of Florian Zeller's psychological thriller "Bunker," which marks their ninth on-screen collaboration.
In "Bunker," Cruz and Bardem portray a married couple, Sofia and Miguel. The film's plot centers on architect Miguel's 17-year marriage as it faces strain when he accepts a morally ambiguous project to construct a survivalist bunker for a billionaire.
Cruz and Bardem have been married for 16 years and are parents to two children, Leo, 15, and Luna, 13. Their professional relationship began in 1992 on the set of the Spanish film "Jamón, Jamón," though they did not begin dating until they reunited for the 2008 film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," for which Cruz won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Bardem previously shared in May that he and Cruz have a system where at least one of them is always home when taking on acting roles since the birth of their first child. He expressed gratitude for their shared time and stated that his only contractual requirement is to remain within two weeks of his family.
He has also spoken highly of Cruz, describing her as an "amazing, beautiful, good human being" with whom he feels blessed to share his life. He further praised her beauty.
The Venice Film Festival, which commenced last Wednesday with the premiere of "Ink," a drama about Rupert Murdoch, is scheduled to conclude on September 12 with the Italian costume drama "Dio Ride."
Maggie Gyllenhaal is heading the jury for the main competition. She is joined by a panel that includes Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania, composer Daniel Blumberg, Italian film critic Francesco Casetti, French director Xavier Giannoli, Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat, and Hong Kong director Johnnie To.
