A book signed by Paul McCartney was discovered and subsequently sold for nearly £1,000 after being found in a charity shop. The book had been on a shelf at an Oxfam shop for several months before the manager, Randle, identified the signature.
Randle stated that the book was among a collection of 1970s memorabilia intended for a window display. "I'd been planning to use some of the items in a fun window display, so it wasn't something we'd paid particular attention to at first," she said. She discovered the signature on an afternoon when she had "a bit of spare time" and began examining the pile of items.
"When I opened the book and saw Paul McCartney's signature, I could hardly believe it... it was one of the best moments of my 10 years working in the shop," Randle added. The signature, which reads "All the best! to ye!" in black ballpoint pen, is on the inside front cover. Oxfam staff have not yet been able to identify the donor of the book.
