The Paramount+ original series, "Dutton Ranch," has been renewed for a second season, shortly after wrapping its first. The show, which follows Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) as they establish a new life in South Texas, has become a popular offering on the streaming platform.
Despite the renewal, questions have arisen regarding the show's creative leadership. Original showrunner Chad Feehan departed the series weeks before its premiere. The renewal announcement was made on Wednesday, June 24, following the series' strong performance, including an 89 percent Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Feehan, who served as showrunner for the first season, has a background in television writing and creation, with credits on series such as "Lawmen: Bass Reeves," "Southland," "Banshee," and "Ray Donovan." He also has writing credits for films like "Paranormal Activity 4" and "Beneath the Dark."
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, stars and executive producers Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser addressed Feehan's exit. "Showrunners change all the time," Hauser stated. "This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on." Reilly added that the team finished Season 1 "beautifully" with Feehan and expressed pride in the creative collaboration, noting that decisions about future showrunners are not made by the cast.
Hauser also commented on the rapid transition from "Yellowstone" to "Dutton Ranch," describing the process as quick. He and Reilly took on executive producer roles, focusing on establishing a new world and maintaining character consistency while introducing new challenges and settings for the second season.
The season finale of "Dutton Ranch" is scheduled to air on Friday, July 3, on the Paramount network at 8 p.m. ET. It will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ earlier the same day at 3:01 a.m. ET. Subscription options for Paramount+ include an Essential plan and a Premium plan, with promotional pricing available for new subscribers.
